A 53-year-old naked man who was bathing in a public bathroom at the Santa Cruz police station was arrested Wednesday, Santa Cruz police reported. A bystander visiting the Center Street police station with his two small children entered the bathroom in the police department's lobby when they encountered the naked man. After it was reported to police, an officer asked the naked man what he was doing. "I'm taking a bath," the naked man told police.
The suspect, later identified as Darrick Burch, indicated to police that he was dirty and needed to wash. The officer asked Burch to put his clothes on, and Burch retrieved a bag with his belongings from the bathroom. Burch was then taken into custody, and police found Burch had an outstanding warrant for being a sex registrant who had failed to register at the police department, said police spokesman Zach Friend.
